We want to acknowledge the high volume of requests we have received in the Portland area regarding conflicts related to the mental health crises we are experiencing as a city. We want to be clear in our mission to serve our community by sharing the skills we have accrued throughout our experience de-escalating conflict and encouraging those who are seeking de-escalation training to best keep their community safe. Our trainings are designed to equip people with insight and skills people can use to best maintain the safety of themselves and the people around them when encountering unpredictable situations that may or may not become escalatory. Our trainings are also intended to empower people to prevent violence in escalatory situations by using clear communication and compassionate curiosity. Our trainings are not designed to prevent any kind of conflict or dispute before it occurs or to resolve conflict in an orderly or scripted manner. We do not claim to be mental health specialists, but we at the Portland Peace Team do believe our trainings are a positive resource for a variety of conflicts involving escalated people and environments. We also want to state that we do not offer active shooter response training in any of our services. We welcome any and all groups to request our trainings who are looking to expand their skills to respond calmly in volatile situations, learn more about how they can approach situations with the intention of preventing violence, and build on their ability to express compassion toward others when being confronted with conflict. If you have any questions or would like to request a training from the Portland Peace Team, email us at our contact down below and we will respond to you as soon as we can.
